Meet the Coaches
Nick Garritano is entering his fourteenth season as the head coach of the CSN Coyotes baseball team. In his 13 seasons at CSN, Garritano has compiled a 496 - 233 record. In 2019, Nick led his club to a career high 46 wins and his best finish to a season was in 2017 when the Coyotes went 45 – 18, winning the regular season SWAC title, Region XVIII tourney championship, Western District tournament championship and a trip to the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, CO. His clubs have been ranked as high as 2nd nationally (in – season) by NJCAA and Perfect Game publications. Before the 2021 season, his club was Pre – Season #1 in the country in multiple polls. In his twelve years at the helm, Garritano has seen 22 of his players drafted by MLB with 16 of those players signing professional contracts. CSN has sent 150 players on to continue their academic/athletic careers at NCAA Div. I, II, III or NAIA institutions in Nick’s tenure, averaging 11 players a year.
Nick has had the pleasure of being able to coach 1st Team All American, SWAC Pitcher of the Year and 1st round draft pick of the San Francisco Giants, Phil Bickford in 2015. In 2021, Nick coached 1st Team Academic and 1st Team All – American, SWAC Player of the Year, Damiano Palmegiani. Damiano was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays. He has also coached multiple First team All – SWAC players including four SWAC Players of the Year in Morgan Stotts (2013), Justin Lutes (2017), Damiano Palmegiani (2021) and Hunter Katschke (2023). Stotts was also named the national gold glove winner for his defensive play in that same year and in 2023, Nicky Garritano won the National Gold Glove Award as well. Nick was named SWAC Coach of the year for the 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2023 seasons, all years that his club won the SWAC regular season title and was named the Western District Coach of the Year in 2017.
Coach Bryan Gidge joined the College of Southern Nevada baseball staff in 2011, he has been at CSN since day 1 of the Garritano era. He will be entering his fourteenth season at CSN and has been with Coach Garritano since 2002. Bryan is in his 18th year teaching with the Clark County School District. Bryan received his Bachelors Degree in Fitness Management from UNLV and earned a Master Degree in Teaching from Grand Canyon University.
Coach Gidge is the Pitching Coach: As Coach Gidge puts it " I Coach the Athletes, the pitchers. Pitchers are who control the entire game. The Coyotes can only go as far as the pitching will take us." The Coyotes consitatnley have one of the top pitching staffs in the conference and is highly respected in the country. He has had 10 pitchers selected in the draft under his watch and many more go on to 4 year universities during his tenure at CSN.
Playing Experience: Bryan played two years at Yakima Valley CC in 1996-97 then transferred to UNLV for the 1998-99 seasons. He was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 33rd round of the 1998 draft.
CSN alumni (2002) Coach Mike Eshragh joined the College of Southern Nevada baseball staff in 2014. He is entering his tenth season at CSN as the infield, hitting and base running coach. In his 9 seasons, CSN has led the SWAC Conference in fielding percentage 8 of 9 years. He has a number of players drafted under his tenure and many more moving on to 4 year universities. In his first five seasons at CSN, Mike has assisted in four SWAC championships, four Region 18 championships, one Western District championship, and a trip to the NJCAA World Series (2017).
Prior to CSN: Mike coached Liberty High School (Las Vegas, NV) from 2007-2014 where he won the 2014 Nevada State Championship and finished the season ranked 15th nationally. He also won the American Legion Nevada State Championships in 2012 and 2013. Eshragh was named American Legion Coach of the Year in 2013 and 2014.
Playing Experience: Mike played at Point Loma Nazarene University in 2003-04 where he was the starting 2nd basemen for two years. He hit a career .367 and held school record for triples in a season. In 2004 Pt. Loma took 3rd in the NAIA World Series.
Mike played a year at San Diego City College (2001), before coming back home to play at CSN in 2002. He hit .314 for the Coyotes while playing 2B/SS.
He was offered a free agent contract by the Philadelphia Phillies (’04).
Matt Stoner is an assistant baseball coach with the College of Southern Nevada baseball team. He is entering his fifth season with the Coyotes. A Las Vegas native, Stoner has been a fixture in baseball coaching in Southern Nevada for decades.
Stoner’s on-field success in the Las Vegas Valley includes coaching at Green Valley High School, including a long stint under current CSN coach Nick Garritano. Stoner also was an assistant coach at Bishop Gorman and has coached Green Valley’s American Legion team.
He played prep sports at Chaparral High School, playing football, soccer and baseball for the Cowboys. After high school, Stoner played at Central Arizona College before finishing his collegiate career playing at UNLV. While at UNLV, he played with current CSN pitching coach Bryan Gidge.
